Achieving Recovery through Empowerment

Encouraging people to become as self-reliant as possible is a foundational recovery principle. To foster empowerment in an individual's recovery, DBH/MRS offers a wide variety of self-help programs and opportunities. These self-help programs are designed to increase personal responsibility while supporting recovery.

  • Compact of Youth & Families- an education and outreach program that seeks to de-stigmatize "mental illness" and engages Philadelphia youth to seek help and wellness treatment. 
  • PhillyHealthInfo.org- continuously-updated information about Delaware Valley health topics, medical organizations and health events is at your fingertips. 
  • Community Support Network- a coalition of agencies and professionals committed to providing treatment, education and advocacy services to individuals seeking help for behavioral health disorders. 
  • Peer Leadership Academy- a leadership development program for people in recovery who desire to help their peers. 
  • Faith-Based Initiative- partnerships with city churches, mosques, synagogues, and other religious groups to help establish more pathways to recovery. 
  • LGBT Initiative- a program designed to increase accessibility to appropriate behavioral health services for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender/Transsexual community.
  • Asian Task Force- a coalition focused of improving access to behavioral health treatment within Philadelphia's Asian communities. 
  • African/Caribbean Task Force- improving treatment access for individuals in the Continental Africa and Caribbean communities.
  • Person-First Task Force- a responsive approach to ensure high-quality behavioral health services are provided to Philadelphia's many different cultures and constituent groups. 
  • Mutual Support Groups- a peer-to-peer approach to sustained recovery. 
  • Recovery Specialist- provides personal case management and rehabilitative services to help an individual plan and manage their recovery journey. 
  • Expressions in Recovery- inspirational stories of recovery, written by people in recovery. 
  • Philadelphia Recovery Community Center- offering hope, health, and healing to individuals and families affected by the disease of addiction.
