Turning Art Into Inspiration In an effort to bring a positive and powerful message to local communities, DBH/MRS is collaborating on a unique project with the City of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program (MAP). Founded in 1984, this critically-acclaimed program works with community groups to educate and involve citizens in arts and in the creation of murals throughout the city.DBH/MRS and MAP work with community groups and young people to design and create murals that reflect the themes of Recovery, Resilience and Self-Determination. The murals, while addressing the challenges of behavioral health and mental retardation issues, will convey visually powerful messages of hope and optimism. The goals of the mural arts initiative include: Connect with constituents- help heal communities with a message that recovery is possible Raise awareness- remove the stigma of mental illnesses and addiction Inspire and empower- reaffirm the message that people with physical/developmental disabilities can lead full and productive lives Putting kids first- ensuring that children are kept safe and free from fear or violence Did you know......that the Mural Arts Program engages over 300 artists per year for its various mural projects and supports over 300 youth a year for their own arts programs?
